Daily Update:
We began our day in the usual way. Today’s spelling word was “unbelievable,” and our Show Not Tell prompt was “She was a good student.” We completed the Week 18 Heggerty listening games, worked on building stamina for Read to Self, and explored a UFLI lesson on exceptions to the VCe (Vowel-Consonant-“e”) pattern. We learned that words like “come,” “have,” “done,” and “give” don’t follow the usual long vowel rule. Our Work on Writing prompt was “Over the weekend I…,” and we shared our writing with the class.

After Recess:
The Grade 1 & 2 students revisited representing numbers and practiced adding them—Grade 1s stuck to digits 0-9, while Grade 2s focused on counting on to add a one-digit number to a two-digit number. The Grade 3s worked on recording numbers in standard numeral form and describing them using place value. They also spent about ten minutes on DreamBox to wrap things up.

After Lunch:
We took a quick look at winter sports in science, discussing which ones are fastest. While speed skating is quick on a flat surface, sports like bobsled and speed skiing use downhill momentum to really amp up the velocity!

PE:
With a big basketball jamboree this Wednesday at MVHS, we practiced dribbling, shooting, passing, and did a few relay-style drills. It’s going to be an exciting event!

End of Day:
After gym, we focused on our Book of Gratitude, writing about “Today I learned about….” We checked over our morning work, filled out our Home to School books, and tidied our desks. Everyone got at least a little free choice time before the bell—if you want more, the key is staying on task in the morning!

Picture of the Day:
I snapped a photo right before they sprinted off to gym—stealth mode success!
