Daily Update:
We started our day by reviewing yesterday’s work, aiming to improve on each task as we go. Our spelling word was Auditory, and we focused on our "Show, Not Tell" sentence: "He was bored!" After that, we headed downstairs for our school pictures! Following pictures, we completed our Heggerty drill and doodled a sparrow. The Grade 2 students did a 15-minute Read to Self while the Grade 3’s worked with me at the table on UFLI, and then we swapped roles. Before recess, we brainstormed ideas as a group for a quick write about a character named Case who had a small problem—he didn’t like his hair on picture day.
Math:
The Grade 3s practiced skip counting by 25s through word problems, finding and correcting mistakes in sequences. Meanwhile, the Grade 1s and 2s worked with manipulatives, focusing on ten frames and "friends of 10," which are pairs of numbers that add up to ten. Can anyone explain what the word "sum" means? The students also partnered up and rotated through math centers.
After Lunch:
We continued reading from The One and Only Ivan, where we met a new character, Ruby the baby elephant. Why do you think Stella isn’t excited about Ruby’s arrival? We also had a quick look at how a resin 3D printer works and discussed its function.
In PE:
We took our learning outside today, playing games with hula hoops and trying a new tag game. Who managed to tag Mr. Ross?
Day End:
For today’s Book of Gratitude, we wrote two sentences starting with the prompt, “I enjoyed playing with...,” and then filled out our home-to-school books. A quick reminder that on Wednesday, we’ll be eating lunch at 11:00 and heading to Fletcher’s Farm from 11:30 until the end of the day!
