Daily Update:
We began our morning in a typical fashion. Today’s spelling word was “competition,” and our Show, Not Tell prompt was “He is kind.” We did our Heggerty listening games and completed a reading maze before heading to the LBA for skating. Everyone enjoyed themselves on the ice, though the extra energy didn't seem to calm us down at school—it might catch up with us at home!
After Recess:
Returning from skating, we grabbed a quick snack and got some fresh air. The Grade 1 & 2 students then represented numbers for our 81st day of school and explored the value of different coins. We also worked on number fact families—two addition and two subtraction facts using three numbers (for instance, how 3, 4, and 7 could make a fact family)—and finished with a short addition drill on the iPads. Meanwhile, Grade 3 discussed the role of zero as a placeholder in a given number.
After Lunch:
We did a brief Read to Self session, and our new student shared some wonderful cards he’d received from classmates at Gretna Green. It’s clear he’s missed there but certainly appreciated here at Napan!
PE:
We split our time between 10 minutes of basketball drills and then some gymnastics practice. One student arrived proudly wearing a gymnastics medal—safe to say she didn’t need my guidance!
End of Day:
Back from the gym, we turned to our Book of Gratitude with the prompt, “I felt happy today when…” We checked our morning assignments, updated our Home to School books, and everyone who’d finished their work enjoyed some free choice time. We packed up and headed home in high spirits.
Picture of the Day:
Everyone made it to free choice time today, great job, get your work done during work time!
