Daily Update:
I hope everyone stayed cozy yesterday during our snow day—and dressed warmly today! The wind chill was well below -30 this morning, so we began with an indoor recess. Our spelling word was “Adventure,” which fit perfectly with the “Potato Adventure” lesson we discovered we’d be having with other classes across the province. For Show, Not Tell, we practiced “It was very cold outside,” and then we jumped into our Heggerty Listening games. After our reading maze, we joined the K-1 class in the library for an online McCain-sponsored “Potato Adventure.” We learned how potatoes travel from the farm to our tables, and each student brought home a potato—be sure to check the bookbags!
After Recess:
The Grade 1 & 2 students focused on representing numbers, using a hundreds chart, and skip-counting forward and backward by 2s. We also did an addition quiz with digits 0-9—everyone’s getting quicker. The “counting on” strategy works best for me; which one do you like to use? Meanwhile, the Grade 3s practiced adding two-digit numbers mentally, explaining strategies like “adding from left to right.”
After an Indoor Lunch:
We spent time with Mrs. Robichaud, discussing friends and friendship. Who are your friends at school or at outside activities like hockey, dance, or gymnastics? What qualities make a good friend, and are you practicing those qualities yourself?
PE:
We began with 10 minutes of basketball drills, followed by 20 minutes of scooter exercises—always a fun way to build coordination!
End of Day:
After PE, we worked on our Book of Gratitude, prompted by “A new thing I learned today was…” We reviewed our morning tasks, completed our Home to School books, and most enjoyed some free choice time before packing up for home.
Picture of the Day:
The K-3 classes gathered in the library for a virtual lesson on the potato supply chain, connecting with other students across the province!
