Daily Update:
A chilly start meant another indoor morning. Miss Brown was away today, so Mrs. Hill stepped in to cover the classroom while I managed the office and worked on our January Recap video. Our spelling word was “determination.”
Today's Show, Not Tell was “The cake looked amazing.” There were plenty of strong opinions on cake flavors!
We completed our Heggerty Listening games, tackled a reading maze, and worked through our UFLI lesson on syllables using the SmartBoard and whiteboard paddles. For Work on Writing, we used the prompt “My school day always starts the same…” Did you remember to use transition words like "First, next, then, after that, finally"? We wrapped up the morning with Read to Self and sharing our writing pieces before heading into another indoor recess.
After Recess:
The Grade 1s & 2s focused on representing numbers and using a hundred chart. We turned it into a scavenger hunt with base 10 blocks to find answers and wrapped up with an addition quiz. The Grade 3s worked on subtracting two-digit numbers using mental math strategies and modeling their work. We explored how the compensation strategy helps find differences before finishing off with DreamBox practice.
After Lunch:
Mr. Whalen joined us in the library for ukulele practice. While chording is tricky, keeping a steady rhythm proved to be the biggest challenge! We’re determined to impress him next time with some serious improvement.
PE:
Even though there's a basketball jamboree tonight, we switched things up and played some floor hockey. With so many sports options, there’s never a dull moment in PE!
End of Day:
We jumped right into our Book of Gratitude with the prompt: “The most fun activity today was…” Home to School books were signed, and memos about upcoming skating trips were added—one at the LBA on Thursday at 9 AM and another at the Community Rink on Friday afternoon for PE. After checking our morning work, we squeezed in some free choice time before packing up and heading home.
Picture of the Day:
"Did you just yank out your tooth? Because there’s definitely a little blood in your mouth!"
