April 20 – 24

Grade 4/5 students:

Excellent job on your ‘Home Learning’ students!  I am very proud of your efforts and thank you to those who have sent me their friendly letter and/or poems to my email.  I enjoyed reading them.  Here is your schedule for the week:

  1. Math – It has been brought to my attention that the preferred browser for Dreambox is Google Chrome (using Chrome may reduce or eliminate the glitches or lagging)

Login to Dreambox and complete a minimum of two activities each day (total of 10 activities for the week).  Remember that the activities with a calendar icon are ones that I have assigned.  Last week, the total number of activities completed on Dreambox was 150!

  2. Writing JournalSpend 15-20 minutes each day writing a journal entry.

  3. Weekly Writing Task - Spend 15-20 minutes working on the assigned writing task so that you have a finished good copy by the end of the week (remember to spend some time revising and editing your work).  This week you will write an autobiography.  Click on the attached document to find an autobiography that I wrote as well as a graphic organizer to help you gather ideas.  Remember that acceptable writing in grades 4 and 5 must be in paragraphs.  I chose four topics about myself (facts, teaching career, family, interests) and so my autobiography has four paragraphs with details about these topics.  Each paragraph has a topic sentence and a closing sentence.

Let us focus on three things for you to self-evaluate.  As you revise, ask yourself these three questions:

  • Did I organize my writing into paragraphs?

  • Can I tell the topic of each paragraph after reading the first sentence?

  • Did I vary the lengths and beginnings of my sentences?

Also each day - remember to read for 30 minutes, and spend 30 minutes doing physical activity
