June 1 – 5
Grade 4/5 students:
Great job on your ‘Home Learning’ students! I am very proud of your efforts and thank you to those who have sent me their Opinion writing to my email (cheryl.carroll@nbed.nb.ca). I enjoyed reading them and am giving students some feedback. Here is your schedule for the week:
Math – Login to Dreambox and complete a minimum of two activities each day (10 activities for the week). Remember that the activities with a calendar icon are ones that I have assigned.
Last week, 8 out of 11 students completed all 10 activities.
Writing Journal – Spend 15-20 minutes each day writing a journal entry.
Weekly Writing Task - Spend 15-20 minutes working on the assigned writing task so that you have a finished good copy by the end of the week (remember to spend some time revising and editing your work). Email to cheryl.carroll@nbed.nb.ca
This week we are going to write a personal narrative (recount) where you retell an event that happened in your life. View the following teaching videos on how to write a personal narrative. The videos give you a general overview but I think they are intended for younger students. Keep in mind that when the video refers to ‘pages’, you will be writing paragraphs. In the example, the sections are a bit too short. In grade 4 and 5 you should have paragraphs with an opening or topic sentence, two or three supporting details or examples, and a closing sentence. Each paragraph should be at least 5-7 sentences long for each ‘part’ of your personal narrative.

Here is a choice board to help you pick a topic (or you can choose one of your own):
I am including a graphic organizer for a personal narrative, a sample of how I used the graphic organizer, and my personal narrative of the time that I beat Evan at golf! I hope that Evan and I get a chance to play golf against each other this summer for another rematch.
I am attaching the District’s weekly STEAM newsletter for those who are interested in doing additional activities.
Reminder that students should spend 30 minutes each day reading and doing physical activity.
Keep up the great work! Only one more week of Home Learning after this week.
