Good morning Students, Parents/Guardians

Ms. Brown will be at the school today from 9 – 11am if you need to return a novel you have finished and get a new novel to read.

Here is a summary of Home Learning for today:

  • Read 15 minutes (in English) and record your reading in your Homework binder.
  • Spend 30 minutes doing some physical activity
  • Today we will meet on TEAMS at 1pm – We will do 30 minutes of French followed by a 30-minute Math Lesson.

For those who are not able to join us on TEAMS for Math, we are going to continue looking at capacity (measuring liquids).  We will review referents (something about the same size) for 1 mL and 1L.  Today we will practice converting from mL to L and L to mL.  Example: 3L = 3 000 mL  and 6L = 6 000 mL

Follow up practice questions (for everyone) will be on Pages 154 #7, #8, and #9.

This work will be passed in when we return to school.

Please feel free to contact me via email with any additional questions or concerns at cheryl.carroll@nbed.nb.ca

Good morning Students, Parents/Guardians

Ms. Brown will be at the school today from 12 – 4pm.  Please come to the school if you have finished the novel you are reading and would like another one from the school.  Also, if you do not have a ruler at home then you can come borrow one from the school.  It appears that we may be doing Home Learning all week and Mrs. Carroll’s Math students will need a ruler this week.

Read the Connect section in the textbook on page 152.  Important concepts: a hollow base ten unit holds 1 mL, and there are 1000 mL in 1L.

Follow up practice questions (for everyone) will be on Pages 153-154 #2, #3, #5, and #6.  This work will be passed in when we return to school.

If students would like some extra practice with French, use the following link to access the FLORA (French Language Opportunities for Rural Areas) unit on ‘les vêtements’  - Level 3 Module 2 (I will show students this site when we meet at 1pm):

Good morning Students, Parents/Guardians

Here is a summary of Home Learning for today:

  • Read 15 minutes (in English) and record your reading in your Homework binder.
  • Spend 30 minutes doing some physical activity
  • Finish your Remembrance Day Writing Assignment (Poem or Essay).  This will be due the day that we return to school.
  • Finish your Remembrance Day Poster
  • Today we will meet on TEAMS at 1pm – We will do 30 minutes of French followed by a 30-minute Math Lesson.

For those who are not able to join us on TEAMS for Math, we are going to begin looking at capacity (measuring liquids).  We will discuss referents (something about the same size) for 1 mL and 1 L.  Look at containers around the house and find the capacity in mL or L.  Read the Connect section in the textbook on page 149.  Important concepts: a milk carton holds 1 L and 1 L fills about 4 glasses.

Follow up practice questions (for everyone) will be on Page 149-150  #1, #2, #6 and #8

This work will be passed in when we return to school.

Good morning Students, Parents/Guardians

Here is a summary of Home Learning for today:

  • Read 15 minutes (in English) and record your reading in your Homework binder.
  • Spend 30 minutes doing some physical activity
  • Work on your Remembrance Day Writing Assignment (Poem or Essay).  This will be due the day that we return to school.
  • Remembrance Day Poster is due when you return to school.
  • Today we will meet on TEAMS at 1pm – We will do 30 minutes of French followed by a 30-minute Math Lesson.  If you are able to login to TEAMS then you will complete the assignment on TEAMS  - I will show you how to find it when we meet today.

For those who are not able to join us on TEAMS for Math, we are going to review referents for each unit of measure (something that is about the size of each unit to help us visualize mm, cm, m, and km) and how the units of measure are related to each other /how to convert from one unit to another.  Remember the relationship between the units:

1 cm = 10 mm                    1 m = 1 000 mm                1 km = 1 000 m

1 m = 100 cm                     1 m = 100 cm

Print the worksheet attached to this post (below) or copy the answers to the questions in your Hilroy notebook. This worksheet is only for those not logging on to TEAMS

This work will be passed in when we return to school.

  • Spend 30 minutes doing some physical activity
  • Work on your Remembrance Day Writing Assignment (Poem or Essay).  This was supposed to be turned in on Friday, Nov. 5th so spend some time on it each day this week and you can give it to me the day that we return to school.  See your Homework binder (Language Arts section) for details on this assignment.

(Let’s use the Grade 5 Math TEAM) Once you are logged in to TEAMS, click on the Grade 5 Math Team and click ‘Join Meeting’ once I start the meeting (I will log on to TEAMS around 12:50).

If I was unable to get in touch with your family yesterday to discuss home learning, then please check your email (parents).  I sent an email this morning to the people I was unable to reach by phone.

Will post additonal information shortly.

June 8 – 12

Grade 4/5 students:

Great job on your ‘Home Learning’ students!  I am very proud of your efforts and thank you to those who have sent me their personal narrative writing to my email (cheryl.carroll@nbed.nb.ca).  I enjoyed reading them and will give students some feedback today.  Here is your schedule for the week:

  1. MathLogin to Dreambox and complete a minimum of two activities each day (10 activities for the week).  Remember that the activities with a calendar icon are ones that I have assigned.

Last week, 5 out of 11 students completed all 10 activities.

  2. Writing JournalSpend 15-20 minutes each day writing a journal entry.

  3. Weekly Writing Task - Spend 15-20 minutes working on the assigned writing tasks so that you have finished good copies by the end of the week (remember to spend some time revising and editing your work).  Email to cheryl.carroll@nbed.nb.ca

Since this is our LAST week of Home Learning, I thought it would be appropriate to use this ‘Finish It’ choice board below (or choose a topic of your own). Choose one of the starters below to help with a topic for this week.  Remember to write in paragraphs (a paragraph has sentences that are all connected to one main idea or ‘part’ of the story).

Some of these choices are opinion or persuasive prompts.  If you choose an opinion prompt then remember to follow the format that we practiced.

I am attaching the District’s weekly STEAM newsletter for those who are interested in doing additional activities.

  • Reminder that students should spend 30 minutes each day reading and doing physical activity.
