Monday, April 6
Good Morning Parents and Students,
Today we begin our journey into Home Learning. My hope is that I am providing students with purposeful learning opportunities but do not want these tasks to create hardships for your families. These are suggestions so that the students can continue to have some practice in the areas of reading, writing, and math in particular. Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions or concerns at jodi.sobey@nbed.nb.ca.
Language Arts
Read Aloud

Scroll Down the page to “Day 1” and Click on “Take Me There”.

Writing
Follow this link: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-1-2.html
Scroll Down the page to “Day 1” and choose “Draw and Write Activity”. I have included a document with a list of word wall words for Grade 1 that will be helpful when spelling sight words. Those words that are not included students are encouraged to stretch out and write down the sounds that they hear. They should spend about 20 minutes working on this activity for today. It will be worked on again later on in the week.
Math
Follow this link: https://play.dreambox.com/login/knjs/6a9h
Have your child sign in with the school code and password picture that was provided by email. If have not received your email or need this information resent don’t hesitate to email me at the address provided above. Work on assigned activities for at least 20 minutes.
In addition to the activities suggested above, students are encouraged to:
Read daily for 30 minutes- Take time to read to or with your child and encourage them to read independently. A simple rule of thumb for helping your child select books at his/her reading level is to have them choose a page in the book (not the first one) and read it. If he/she encounters five or more words that are tricky and they are unable to solve, then the book is too difficult for pleasure reading at this time. There are also some online sites that offer age appropriate material for students, https://www.cbc.ca/kidsnews/, https://www.tumblebooks.com/ ( Username: nblib Password: nbschools ), www.raz-kids.com, and reading a-z. Some sites are providing free trials.
Physical activity for 30 minutes - see the documents tab for physical activity ideas for the month from Mr. Watters.
Social Emotional Learning – Don’t forget to look after your social emotional well-being! See the documents tab for suggested activities each day for the month of April (if interested).
