 Hoping that you had a wonderful holiday and to say thank you for the thoughtful gifts at Christmas!      I hope you are enjoying your snow day! Remember to read a book and locate any sight words you know~Grade 1- read and review strategies for new words (Picture cues, letters in the word, chunk parts you may know, does it make sense? always go back and reread with the new word to connect the sentence to the story. Parents: Please send a new bag of extra clothing for your child if you have not already. They were sent home to make sure they have clothing that fit and are appropriate for the season. Zoo Phonics letters of the week are Kk and Ll we will meet Kayo Kangaroo and Lizzy lizardValue Lessons- Kind kids keep their promises.  Thursday - Guidance with Miss McKenzie - Lessons center around the 5 I-Care rules     Friday- Pizza Day! please ensure that money is packed securely and labelled with your child's name.  Have a wonderful, safe weekend!

    REMINDER!  today, Monday December 7th is our annual Christmas Dinner at the Napan Hall.  All staff and students will be attending.  Note: If your child will be eating his/her own lunch please let me know so it will not be left behind.  Thank you to the generosity and time given to allow us to enjoy this wonderful meal!

November 25th is our next skating day!Children are encouraged to try to skate for the duration. If they need a rest, or a drink, we ask thet they do so in the designated areas. The arena requests that it be water only and that it not be consumed on the ice but again in the rest area. Parents are invited to come join us!

The idea of a word beginning with their names, actions and through stories. Breaking words into syllables by counting “claps” blending syllables to determine words. Writing- Children use illustrations, labelling, and dominant sounds to record stories they think of. Stories most often reflect real life experiences as they are easy to write about. They are encouraged to use stories with the sight words. Zoo Phonics! – 26 animals at the zoo will help us learn to read and write. Students have begun to build a “word wall” of High Frequency words as a reference for reading and writing.  I  a  am  see   at   can   come  the I am hoping to post the wall soon!    Math-   Numbers from 1-5; Students go beyond counting and explore numbers as they relate to quantities, and each other.  Key skills are recognizing more/fewer, counting on and back from a given number, Part Part Whole- various combinations to make a certain amount.

Please have money in a labelled holder tks.     Gr.1 Spelling Test                       Return Library Books   Operation Chrismas Child- There is still time to request and fill boxes, fill out the yellow form that was sent home last week.  I would like to fill a box with the kids if you would like to donate a small item or send a dollar or two to help with the cost it would be most welcome!  As I reflect on my own blessings, may I suggest that  in lieu of a "teacher" gift I would be honoured if your family filled a box or contribute to the class box to give the gift of Christmas to a child  less  fortunate. Christmas is about the children and the spirit of giving.     What we’re up to:  Language Arts – Continue work with rhyme, word,and syllable awareness -. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK! October 26th-30th    Oct.26 Monday- Welcome back to classes!                           Library and Art Day today   Oct.27 Tuesday – our Hot Lunch day,  Toquitos      Oct 28- Wednesday- Guidance today                            Oct 29-Thursday– Photo Retakes          Oct. 30– Friday – Pumpkin Carving at 10:30 with some light entertainment. We will be celebrating Halloween for the last hour of the day. It is optional to send treats with your child, or cost share with others on fruit or veggie trays apple caramel or other “healthy Halloween” treats!                                                           What we’re up to:  Language Arts – We are learning rhyme and word and syllable awareness -Playing with rhyme through books and songs. The idea of a word beginning with their names, actions and through stories. Breaking words into syllables by counting “claps” blending syllables to determine words.    Math:  General Outcome- I can demonstrate an understanding of repeating patterns (2 or 3 elements) by: identifying, reproducing, extending and creating patterns using manipulatives, sounds and actions.      Sorting and Patterning!   Children are learning to sort items based on a single attribute- size, shape, color, gender, clothing etc. We’ve been using groups of items to show how patterns are created using up to 3 elements.  The CORE is the part that repeats.  Using colors, actions, shapes, size, numbers, etc. to show various patterns with 2-3 differences, as well as story and song patterns. Play along with your child, what patterns can you find and create??? Happy Hallowe'en Trick or Treating!!

       A PEEK AT OUR WEEK! October 5th-9th  Fire Prevention Week! theme - Hear the Beep where you Sleep!  Oct.5 Monday- Welcome back to classes!      Library and Art Day today    Oct.6 Tuesday – our first Hot Lunch day, Students still require a snack for morning recess.        Oct 7- Wednesday- Firemen will visit our school today at 9:OO                             Oct 8-Thursday– No classes for students        Oct. 9– Friday – No classes for students                                                         What we’re up to  Language Arts – We are learning rhyme and word and syllable awareness -Playing with rhyme through books and songs. The idea of a word beginning with their names, actions and through stories.   A PEEK AT OUR WEEK! June 1st-June 5th  "Disability Awareness WEEK - watch for our walk and roll!   Read to an adult each night. Talk about the pictures, your predictions…were you right? (cross checking- does the word look right? Sound right? Make sense?) If you answer no to any… fix it up! Kinderclub- each day: Welcome back to the gals. Kinderclub has finished and an update will be sent. June 1 Monday-Big Road Trip- first to release our fish, then a train ride to            Rogersville   June 2 Tuesday– -Hot Lunch day- Subway   May 20- Wednesday-  Off to our visit to Region 7 Hospital! What do you think we’ll see??         Kilometer Club will walk, weather permitting                         May 21- Thursday– Guidance with Mrs. Sturgeon         No Kilometer Club, I have early duty.   May 22 – Friday – Pizza Day (please have money sealed and labelled)       Kilometer Club- walk if weather permitting.    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  What we’re up to:             Language Arts- Daily 5 and Writing  Daily 5 work. Read to Self, and Read to Someone, WORD Work : we have learned some great strategies on how to be better readers! Strategies and notes on each will be sent home throughout the week so you know what students are practicing.                 Writing recipe- We are building on the writing recipe. We will create a rubric together and post it soon. WE ARE WRITERS! Math-        Number Sense: students learn more about numbers and how they relate to one another- more/fewer, numbers before/after others, count by touch, identify number placement on a number line etc. 5 and 10 frames.         Our Math Unit- Exploring Geometry and Measurement     Outcomes to Master… ·         SS.1 Use direct or indirect measurement to solve problems. o    SS.1.1 Use direct comparison to compare two objects based on a single attribute, such as length (height), mass (weight) and volume (capacity).
