Home Learning May 25, 2020!

Happy Monday Families!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We are now entering Week 8 of Home Learning.  My message to you all along has been “Do What You Can, When You Can” and I sincerely mean that. It has been a trying time for all of us and it is important to look after our social and emotional well being first and foremost. Warm-Up

Practice counting by 2’s starting at 0 while bouncing or tossing a ball between you and others at your house. Can you counter higher than 20 by 2’s?

*Your goal for this week is to complete 5 lessons. If you complete at least 1each day and you will reach the goal at the end of the week. Remember if you begin a game, please finish it.     

Problem of the Week:

1)Estimate the length of your driveway or yard (using your own feet).  Remember, estimation means making a thoughtful guess about how many there is of something, the answer is NOT exact. When estimating we use the words “about, close to, and almost.”

2) Once you’ve written down your “estimate” go out and figure out exactly how many of your own feet it is. You will walk just like if you were walking on a tightrope. Record on your paper how many of your feet it actually took? Was your estimate close?

3) If your parent or guardian did the same thing would it take more or less feet? Explain your reasoning. 

*Students will need a toilet paper or paper towel tube and a piece cereal box cardboard for an art activity that they are going to complete on Friday!

Home Learning, May 22nd!

Happy Friday Boys and Girls!

The date is May 22nd, 2020.

It would be pizza day at school. Will you have pizza at home today?

I am up early and enjoying the birds chirping from my porch. I sure do love summer mornings.

It has been so sunny and warm this week. I wonder what you have been doing on these summer days we have been having.

Home Learning Tuesday, May 19th!

She is looking for students to create possible covers for it.

Today your writing activity is to answer a “what would you rather” question.

Would you rather dig in the garden for worms or search a pond for tadpoles?

Students should begin by telling which activity they would rather do and then include at least 2 reasons why they would prefer that activity.

Here is my writing piece: 

I would much rather go search for tadpoles in a pond then dig for worms in the garden. I think that worms are slimy and gross so I would not want to have to pick them up. Also, I don’t like to go fishing so what would I do with the worms? If I had tadpoles I could take care of them and maybe have a pet frog some day. 

 *I’ve attached a Writer’s Checklist under the ”Documents” tab for you and your child to refer to, to help you evaluate what they are doing well and what needs to be worked on next. Each of these writing skills have been taught during Writer’s Workshop time. Pick 1 area that your child could work on and work together to fix that up. Once they’ve shown improvements in that area, set a new goal together.

Mrs. Carroll has been working hard to get our Yearbook ready to send off to the printing company. She is looking for Yearbook Cover submissions. She will be at the school on Friday, May 15th between to 10:00-12:00 to receive your entries. Information in regards to what submissions must include can be found on the School Main Page. Home Learning, May 11th!

Welcome to week 6 of “Home Learning!”

Thanks so much parents for helping your children complete the tasks I’ve been providing. I will remind you once again, these tasks are not intended to cause extra stress in an already stressful time. Friday, May 8th!

Happy Friday Boys and Girls!

Guess what? The porcupines came back. Thankfully they didn't stay long!

This coming Sunday is the day we celebrate our Mom's.

Thursday, May 7th!

Dear Children,

Today is "thankful" Thursday. The date is May 7, 2020.

I am thankful for all of you and all your smiles. Who are you thankful for today?

Did you get to see the "Snowbirds" yesterday? It was pretty cool!

The craziest thing happened at my house in the night. Chase, Autumn and I woke to a loud noise. 

There were 2 porcupines fighting under our trampoline.

Chase came to the rescue and scared them off so we could all get back to sleep.

Practice counting by 5’s to 100 with Grandma and Grandpa at the Beach

Then “count around the circle” by 5’s, try to get to 100. If that is too tricky you could continue to work on counting by 5’s to 50. (The expectation for the End of Grade 1 is that students would be able to skip count by 5’s to 100, starting at 0.)

In addition to the activities suggested above students are encourage to read independently, participate in somephysical activity and complete the task from the “Social-Emotional Learning” calendar.

EPIC Books!

Hello Parents,

You may have received an email from me tonight in regards to EPIC Books. I was investigating as to what that site was all about.
